雅思范文:是否应破坏环境来提高生活质量

Damage to the enviornment is an inevidable consequence of worldwide improvements on the standard of living.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer.

The discussion about whether or not damage the enviornment to improve the standard of living is a very controversal one. There are people on both sides of the argument who have very strong feelings.

In the first place, some people think it is worthwhile to improve our living standard by damaging the enviornment because it shows that mankind can overcome the difficulties when fighting against nature. For example, some beautiful big houses are being built at the mountain top and lots of rich people want to live there for they just want to lead a quiet and peaceful life after work. After the houses are completed, people think that they had already overcome all difficulties and beat nature. Secondly, with the increasing number of population, more places are needed for humans to live. Moreover, we have to change the original surroundings in remote areas in order to help the people there to improve their living conditions.

Some people, however, disagree with that point of view, they think that will cause lots of trouble. First of all, damaging the enviornment can cause serious light pollution. For instance, there are various tall buildings standing in the center of the city, but with dark windows outside. Once the bright sun is rising in the sky, those windows will reflect the sunlight to other places, that causes troubleto us, espeacilly to the drivers. Next, too much damage to the enviornment may cause floods, storms or other natural disasters and they can do harm to the agriculture or other areas that are essential to the country. Finally, animals can be affected by the damage, lose their inhabitant or even become endangered.

In conclusion, I think people cannot improve their standard of living by damaging the enviornment because the earth belongs all and we have the responsibility to create a better life for our springs.
