The discussion about whether or not visitors should follow local customs of other countries os a very controversal one. There are people on both sides of the argument who have very strong feelings.

Some people think that it is important for visitors to follow the local customs and even the behaviours of the country where they visit. First of all, it is good to show your polite request to the local people. For instance, when you pay a visit to Japan, you have to bow to others while greeting with them. And you may even sit on the floor during a meal because it is the Japanese customs. If you do so, you will be welcomed by them and have a good time during the trip. Secondly, we should respect the local customs because some of them may lasts for hundreds of years. Finally, some countries even make their customs and behaviours into laws and everyone shall follow, so we also have to do it in the same way as the local people do.

On the other hand, other people disagree with it and they think that cultural differences should be welcomed by the host country. To begin with, this important step is essential for a country’s development, espeacilly for the developing countries. Take China for example, it has just hosted the Beijing Olympics and now China changes a lot. After the Olympics, the Chinese are more polite to foreginers and behave well enough to create the new symbol of the Chinese people. What is more, the whole nation will be well-known to the world by this procedure. At last, people in that country can learn a lot from other countries through the way of welcoming different cultures.

In my opinion, I think the host country should welcome different cultures from other countries. Only in this way can the host country develops more quickly and more healthy in the future.
