2010年考生必看:2009年度雅思考试十大失分点

总论:考生口语失分的五大原因

Reason 1: Lack of self-esteem(缺乏自尊)

î        Contrary to popular opinion that English background is the most essential in having an excellent mark in IELTS speaking exam, lack of self-esteem is actually the major cause of a low mark in the test. For example, ,most candidates will feel extremely anxious or feel serious nervousness during the exam and while answering the examiners question because of lack of self-esteem. There are times that students are not confident enough about their answers or with their English ability so they will start to shake and become nervous. At times, it is because they are not ready or did not prepare well enough for the test, this can also lower their self-confidence and make them anxious.

î        Thus, it can affect their performance and their thinking during the test. And the worst thing is student’s brain becomes totally blank and will not know how to answer or their facial expression becomes so stiff because of extreme nervousness. These things can affect the result of their band scores seriously. Good self-esteem should be properly trained during IELTS training in the class and students should do adequate preparation before attending the actual exam to be able to conquer their lack of self-esteem and obtain an ideal band score.

î        Furthermore, there are chances that because of lack of self-esteem students become pointless of what they say, they would not know where to start to answer and how to start answering. Actually, the examiners can feel this and can cause a minor deduction from the band score. A good communicator should be sure and tough with what they are saying to convince the examiner that what they are saying is actually true. Confidence is the most important thing a student should have before thinking of taking the exam.

Reason 2: Lack of practice(缺少实践)

î        There is a saying that “Practice makes perfect” and this is totally true when you want to achieve an excellent band score in a test like IELTS. Students fail basically because they did not do enough practice and exercise. Most students would want educators to teach them skills and techniques but they do not apply it by doing necessary exercises. For instance, in speaking part of IELTS, students would want as many questions and answers from their teacher but they do not spend time in thinking about them and they do not open their mouth to practice the answers

î        Remember to put into practice everything students have learned inside the class and find out which part they cannot do well and ask for their teachers help. The more practice students have done the better result he/she will have in the exam.

Reason 3: Lack of vocabulary(词汇量不足)
