  Some people think that a university student should choose a particular subject rather than a wider range of subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  首先,只学一门课程会导致大学生思维狭窄,现在很多领域都是跨学科的,需要多学科知识才能真正学好某一门课程;

  其次,工作好也不仅需要专业知识,还需要各种各样非专业知识,尤其是希望成为团队领导,更是需要各种专业外的知识;

  01

  Many people hold that a university student should focus on one particular subject rather than a wider range of subjects. This, according to these people, will help the university students toconcentrate on the subject they are studying without beingdistracted by having to spend time and energy on other subjects. The natural result is that the students can master the subject better and find a better job after they graduate.

  This argument is great, yet only seemingly so. In the first place, to choose only one particular subject is not the surest way to learn this subject well. Today, almost every subject is interdisciplinaryin nature. For example, linguistic studies require extensiveknowledge of statistics, and modern astronomy is based on mathematics. It is thus very unlikely to really master a subject without much knowledge from other subjects. Secondly, to be equipped with the knowledge of only one subject is not enough for a complex job, which often demands a wide range of knowledge and capabilities. This is especially true when you are expected to become a team leader. Finally, it would be extremely boring and wasteful to choose only one subject in your university when you are faced with an amazing number of other choices.

  (2)seemingly

  (3)interdisciplinary

  (4)extensive 广博的

  (5)statistics

  (6)astronomy 天文学

  (7)capability能力

  03

  To choose one particular subject, then, may help you get a job after you leave the university, but to be open to as many other subjects as possible is more advisable if your wish is to have amasterful command of the subject you choose, to achieve a better career development, and to live a more interesting life.

  (2) be open to...

  (3) advisable 可取的

  (4) masterful 专家级的;

  (5) achieve
